JENNIE BRATHWAITE

In the fall of 2004, a very talented 42-year-old lady from Barbados named Jennie Brathwaite came to live and serve at the Embassy Mission House & Hotel as a missionary. She was quite an exceptional person. Jennie had been the secretary of the Prime Minister of Barbados, but felt God calling her to be a missionary in Belize. She had prayed about it, knowing she was leaving a very important job. Jennie was also a CPA and helped with all our bookwork at the hotel. In fact, she did such a good job that the Belize Tourism Board was very much interested in her helping the small hotels organize their accounting systems. She had set up an accounting system that was very advanced, yet very easy to understand and follow. But her first love was the Lord, and it showed in her daily life.

It wasn't long before she and Judy (my wife) were the best of friends. She joined Judy's choir, and everyone in the choir as well as everyone who came into the hotel grew to love her. She had a radiant joy and glow that spread to all who were near her. Jennie became especially interested in a small Christian library Judy had started with her own books, and she began organizing and working on the library in her spare time until it grew and became "usable." Her dream was to have a mobile library that could take the books out to the neighborhoods. But, to the deep sorrow of all who knew her, in February of 2005 Jennie began having some serious symptoms which led to he discovery of a brain aneurysm. It had grown to an advanced stage, which made surgery the only option. Our dear friend never woke up from the surgery and went to be with Jesus four days after the operation. The library had "taken root" through Jennie and was named in her honor.
